Champagne Drappier
Vines were first planted in Urville 2000 years ago, in Gallo-Roman times. Our wine cellar, however, was built in 1152 on the orders of Saint Bernard, the founder of Clairvaux Abbey.
Around this wonderfully preserved medieval monument, the family estate was built seven centuries later, in 1808, and is now run by Michel Drappier. In Urville, the new home of Pinot Noir, the grape that “runs through our veins”, a vineyard was planted which we cultivate according to the principles of organic farming.
We continue to cultivate, like “archives” of the long history of our house, almost forgotten yet unforgettable grape varieties: the Fromenteau, the Arbane, the Petit Meslier and the Blanc Vrai.
Today, we prefer the authentic and natural to the sophisticated, sometimes almost exaggerated refinement. Thanks in particular to a restrained dosage and the very restrictive use of sulphites – the ideal was achieved in the Cuvée Brut Nature Sans Soufre – we try to bring out the many facets of our sites and our winemaking.
